ANNA SCHWARTZ
BIOGRAPHY
Anna Schwartz is a scenic artist, educator, and designer whose work explores how storytelling can be amplified through texture, space, and the bold pursuit of "why." With a Master of Fine Arts in Theatre Design from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and a BFA from Northern Kentucky University, Anna brings a decade of experience in theatrical production—from professional scenic artistry to higher education instruction.
As an educator, Anna is committed to shaping thoughtful, curious theatre-makers. She has taught undergraduate and K–12 students in a range of subjects including scenic painting, acting, playwriting, and design fundamentals. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes process over product, encouraging students to explore their unique artistic voices through self-evaluation, constructive critique, and hands-on learning. Currently serving as Scene Shop Coordinator at NKU, Anna integrates leadership, curriculum development, and professional technical standards into a collaborative educational environment.
Her professional design and technical credits include productions at The Nebraska Repertory Theatre, Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts, and Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, among others. Anna has worked extensively alongside mentor JD Madsen as an assistant designer and scenic artist, contributing to a diverse portfolio that spans musicals, classical plays, and immersive experiences.
Anna believes theatre has the power to help us navigate darkness and create moments of collective transformation. Her work—both in the classroom and on stage—aims to foster resilience, empathy, and bold artistry in the next generation of storytellers.
